Switch Sports’ version 1.2.1 update launched earlier this week, aiming to further strengthen measures against what Nintendo called “disruptive behaviours” online, as well as pledging to suspend any online players violating its Community Guidelines. Punishable actions included “fraudulent behaviour such as save data manipulation.” Unfortunately, patch 1.2.1 also introduced a significant bug causing crashes - whether playing online or offline - during the pre-match loading screen. Following initial reports of the bug, Nintendo announced it was temporarily suspending the rollout of the update....

First up, for free, there’s the addition of Very Easy and Unknown modes, which will offer new simple/extremely difficult gameplay options. Fans who’ve tried Very Easy say it’s an even more straightforward option than the current Story Mode, designed for players who just want to experience the narrative. Another training grounds battle will also be available, with the opportunity to earn new weapons. Onto the paid stuff, there’s yet more costumes for Alphen and Shionne, plus a new Training Grounds fight, all themed around Sword Art Online....

Whilst arriving a little later than its PC sibling, this new story DLC allows players to explore the “untamed island of Galen, the westernmost island of the Systres Archipelago” where players can “dive deep into the lives and culture of the druids, and fight to defend Tamriel from the threats within”. “In The Elder Scrolls Online: Firesong, players will finally confront the Ascendant Lord and conclude their Legacy of the Bretons yearlong adventure,” the team teases....

But blockbusters are one thing, and a good year of gaming far from depends on them. Look a bit closer and you see a new Bayonetta in there, a new Splatoon, a new Plague Tale game - an underrated series if you ask me. There’s a new Pokémon game, because there’s always a new Pokémon game, there’s Tango Softworks’ new spooky-looking Ghostwire: Tokyo, and there’s some eye-catching martial arts in Sifu....

Some nine-and-a-half years after its original release, The Last of Us has been fully remade with modern technology on PS5 hardware. With an advanced suite of graphics tech in tow, does the remake also blow past its frame-time budgets? Or has Naughty Dog more sensibly balanced visual beauty with fluid frame-rates? The Last of Us Part 1 offers players five genuine visual modes, engaged through various selections and system-level tweaks....

Nintendo has stopped making the Mario version now, but you can still find it on offer at some retailers for a reduced price. The new Game and Watch is a great collectible item to sit on the shelves or a games room display of any Nintendo Fan, and really stokes the nostalgia when you play it. More recently, Nintendo released a Legend of Zelda version of the Game & Watch which is now also seeing discounts....

A press release shared with Eurogamer states: “These beloved games will also be heading to Steam and PlayStation”. However, without a release date, this could be a timed exclusive for Xbox and PC. Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 5 Strikers are already available on Steam, so it makes sense to complete the set. Persona 5 Royal is synonymous with PlayStation, but was recently removed from the PS Plus Collection of PS4 games available on Sony’s new console....

Battlefront 2 was handed out for free for about a week on the Epic Games store in January, you see, and it’s also bundled in with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, thanks to the recent inclusion of EA Play with that, too. The result has been a late, but seemingly quite sustained second wind. Servers are full, and quite nicely balanced, with the end-of-round scoresheets showing everything from max-level players with 60-plus kills to low-level newbies holding their own....

You can play with tradition controls, or relive your Wii Sports past and play using the Joy-Con as a motion controller. There’s a Speed Golf mode where all players tee off and play at the same time, and Story Mode where you play as your Mii character. Mario Golf arguably came to life on the NES, though Mario Open Golf was released outside Japan as NES Open Golf. Following that, Camelot released Mario Golf games for N64, Game Boy Color, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and most recently 3DS....

Turbo Kid is the superb, super violent B-movie superhero cult hit comedy film set in an alternate 1997 post-apocalyptic earth. It stars The Kid, who teams up with a mysterious girl called Apple to defeat a warlord played wonderfully by Michael Ironside. The music is great. The film is great. You should watch it! Now, there’s a Turbo Kid video game. It’s a Metroidvania in which you play as The Kid, fighting across the wasteland....

In an open letter, VP of Global Trust and Safety Angela Hession discussed progress against hate raids on the platform as well as other safety concerns. Hate raids have been a long term problem on Twitch, but were particularly prevalent in 2021 against streamers from marginalised communities. “[In the past 12 months] our community experienced some of the most vicious attacks ever seen against streamers - particularly streamers of colour, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and military veterans,” says Hession....

Using the hashtag #ADayOffTwitch, the protesters hope that by refusing to log on and create - or even spectate - Twitch streams on 1st September, it’ll hit the company’s purse and compel it to listen, and better support, the creators who suffer regularly from “hate raids” and organised attacks. The idea for the boycott comes from Rek It Raven, LuciaEverBlack, and Shineypen (thanks, PC Gamer), and together, they’re trying to convince other Twitch streamers and viewers to do the same....

In a tweet, the developer stated: “As of today [28th March], in-game purchases of treasure maps and bags of orbs have been disabled, and the game is no longer available for download from the Apple app or Google Play store.” However, the developer did affirm that while the game is retiring, those who own it already will be able to keep playing in offline mode right up until the point the app is removed completely from devices....

If you’ve purchased either game on PS4, you can get the Collection for just $10, Sony announced today. (This doesn’t include those with access to Uncharted 4 via PlayStation Plus.) Uncharted 4’s multiplayer mode won’t be included, however. Three graphical modes will be available to pick from. Fidelity Mode offers 4K visuals with a “30fps target framerate”. Performance Mode “targets 60fps”. Performance+ Mode “targets 120fps at a 1080p resolution”. Standard PS5 features will also be on offer, such as 3D Audio, fine-tuned rumble and resistance for the DualSense controller, and improved load times....

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, developed by Netease and co-published by WB Games under Portkey Games, will let players collect and level over 70 cards to be used in PvP brawls and PvE challenges. The game is set 10 years after the defeat of Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts and involves a new generation of witches and wizards. You’ll also get to roam around Hogwarts or fly over the school on a broom, brew potions, take part in the Sorting Hat ceremony and play Quidditch....

Warzone’s Verdansk map is obviously massive, which you’ll no doubt know by now if you’ve spent any time roaming the vast Ukraine-based whereabouts. The MP5 is great at close quarters while you’re storming buildings and all sorts of facilities. The Modern Warfare variant has lost popularity over time, as developer Raven continues to move on from the weapons of said game and focus on Black Ops: Cold War instead. That being said, there are people who still use it, so we’ll be offering a loadout for both....
