Banjo-Kazooie, Fable 2, Gears of War 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are among the first 16 back compat games you can stream to Android phones. Three of these - Jetpac Refuelled, Viva Piñata, and Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise - have also had touch controls enabled. “We’ve listened to the feedback, going all the way back to our earliest cloud gaming preview, and making games from previous generations available on mobile devices has been one of the most requested features by the community,” Xbox said in a blog post today....

So why is Capcom’s The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap seemingly so underappreciated? The Minish Cap was released in 2004, and follows a new incarnation of Link who seeks to break a curse placed on Princess Zelda, after the destruction of the ‘sacred blade’ by the evil sorcerer Vaati. To do this, Link must seek out the Minish - a race of microscopic beings who forged the original sacred blade for a previous hero - to repair the blade and return Zelda to her former self....

Speaking on the Kinda Funny podcast as part of a press tour for his new memoir Disrupting the Game, Fils-Aimé was asked about Nintendo franchises he was looking forward to - before Mother 3 was inevitably brought up in conversation. “How long did it take until Earthbound and the Mother franchise came up? Don’t hold your breath,” Fils-Aimé - who departed Nintendo three years ago - said. “Again, I’m not there, I don’t know what’s going on....

The rumour comes via the B.O.B. The Podcast. Contributor Bespin Bulletin reports that a new instalment of the fan-favourite RPG is in development, adding “it’s not with EA” and “we’ll never guess” what studio is taking on the project. “Amongst my digging, I heard there is a Knights of the Old Republic project in development somewhere,” Bespin Bulletin said (thanks, VGC). “I talked to a couple of people, and I also found out that [Bloomberg reporter] Jason Schreier said that it’s not with EA, and we’ll ’never guess’ who the studio is that’s making this game....

Please bear in mind that this is nothing more than my dream launch line-up for the PSVR 2. This is a wish list only so some of the games featured may not exist yet and maybe even never will at all. For this list I have also excluded PSVR 1 ports and instead gone for ports of big PC VR games that have previously been unplayable on Sony’s original headset....

Over a decade after Left 4 Dead 2 came out, Valve requested the German authorities re-evaluate the zombie shooter and as a result, the uncut international version is now available in the country. The German and Australian ratings boards refused to classify Left 4 Dead 2 when it launched in November 2009 because of its violence and gore. Eventually, Valve released a censored version of the game that ditched the dismemberment, pulled blood splatter and made zombies disappear as soon as you kill them....

In its latest Halo Waypoint, the developer talked candidly about its “challenging challenges” - including a new seasonal challenge to unlock the Mister Chief helmet that’s “been causing quite a bit of grief” - as well as outlining penalties for unsporting Spartans who quit mid-game. However, buried in the “Flighting Future” section of the latest Halo Waypoint update, 343i also detailed the next batch of test flights - “we have quite a bit of new content we are looking to get into your hands, but we are deciding what the right amount is and are still waiting to see what progress is made in the coming weeks” - and teases “maybe a new place and way to play”....

The reimagined version of Capcom’s survival horror classic Resident Evil 4 kicked off yesterday’s State of Play showcase with an eye-catching trailer, complete with a release date: 24th March 2023. The reveal teaser also included something else: a disclaimer, stating “Leon’s brown sheepskin leather bomber jacket appears with permission from Schott NYC”. PC Gamer did a little nosying around and sure enough, a jacket that looks an awful lot like Leon’s is on the Schott NYC’s website, albeit without any mention of our intrepid zombie-fighter’s upcoming adventure....

The original board game iteration of Gloomhaven, designed by Isaac Childres, is a sprawling, turn-based tactical dungeon crawler set in a persistent fantasy world that’s packed with characters, items, and scenarios, all gradually unlocking over the course of a 100+ hour campaign. It’s a thrilling, richly designed, and all-round fantastic RPG experience, and one that also happens to come in a box big enough to kill a man. As such (plus the fact the original board game retails for around £100), the prospect of a cheaper, more manageable digital iteration of Gloomhaven is an enticing one indeed - and the good news is the PC release, developed by Flaming Fowl Studios, has been widely praised during early access....

The PC real-time strategy game, which launches this week, is the first brand-new Age of Empires game in 16 years. It was developed by Microsoft-owned studio World’s Edge and Sega-owned studio Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes, Dawn of War). Its Min Spec Mode lets people using older and lower-powered machines play the game, Microsoft said. It’s triggered via a combination of in-game settings, made up with help from an auto-detection system when you first launch the game (this can be referenced or tweaked from the settings menu)....

The trailer itself is simply incredible, even today - and for a number of reasons. First of all, it was a genuine real-time showcase. This was PlayStation 2 producing visuals of quality we’d never seen before - genuine ’next-gen’ stuff was on display before the machine was even released in Europe. Secondly, the technology on display wasn’t just about graphics, it was about systems. Across the nine minutes of intense action, we got to see environmental destruction systems, AI, stealth, body part-specific damage and much more....

Instead these are unorthodox vehicles designed for various emergencies, from the Big Healer road ambulance to the flying Airloovator. Players will be tasked with dispatching ambulances and delivering patients to nearby hospitals, while curing their ailments along the way and competing with rival hospitals. As such, the expansion adds new locations, including the cold and wintery Pointy Mountains and the tropical Pebberley Island....

It is maybe one of the fundamentals of life that if you really want to draw attention, you splurge on something that has next to no practical value. A fancy sport car is well and good, but a giant jewel or a triumphal arch is better. “No practical value” doesn’t mean, of course, that these things have no use in a broader sense.
