Speaking on the latest This Week In Marvel podcast, the comics maker’s creative vice president Bill Rosemann briefly discussed Insomniac’s current slate of projects. “If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire,” Rosemann said. “It gets a little darker.” After a relatively light-hearted and colourful first entry, plus spin-off Miles Morales, Insomniac’s full-blown sequel will see Peter and Miles team up to take down Venom....

In an update to the official website, the publisher reminded players that “real money trading (RMT) and other illicit activities upset the balance of the game and, as such, are prohibited under the Terms of Service”. Having reportedly “confirmed the existence of players who are engaging in these illicit activities”, Square Enix has now terminated 5037 accounts for participation in real money trading and prohibited activities, and another 814 for advertising real money trading....

Harvestella - a sort of blend of Final Fantasy, Harvest Moon, and Rune Factory - casts players as an amnesiac who wakes up in a world where the seasons are governed by four giant crystals known as Seaslight. Unfortunately for the locals, something has gone awry and a deadly dust known as the Quietus has started seeping from the crystals, trapping people indoors and causing crops to wither and die....

This collection is set to release digitally in the spring, and consists of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy 2, Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy 6. Each game is said to boast “vivid 2D pixel graphics and the beautifully rearranged soundtrack”. Square Enix states each of these remasters, which can be bought as a one stop bundle with all six games or individually, will offer improved gameplay, a “modernised UI” and other accoutrements such as “a bestiary, illustration gallery and music player”....

That’s according to the latest report from Streamlabs, which states that all platforms have seen a decline in growth in comparison to this time last year. The Covid-19 pandemic is the main cause of both the rise and fall of streaming numbers. With more people working from home and spending less time on outdoor leisure activities, streaming viewership increased; now the world is opening up again, those numbers are declining....

As spotted by the eagle-eyed folks at Resetera, the fighting game - which, as yet, does not have a firm release date beyond a very vague “2023” window - has secured a 15 age rating due to its “expression of physical damage shown in illustrations in addition to basic fighting expression”. Whilst this doesn’t necessarily mean that a release is just around the corner, it does intimate that it’s probably set to drop in the next six months or so… and with The Game Awards just a few days away now, many fans are speculating that we may get that all-important release date then....

All of this looks great. I had a build for a while and was very happy splattering and looting - doing the inventory Tetris thing and the skills-bar glissando. Mutant crabs. Horrible shambling monsters. And me at the heart of it, a Berserker class who seemed to be lamping people for the sheer luminous joy of it all. Re-Logic founder Andrew Spinks made headlines when he railed against Google on his personal Twitter and said he would never work with the company again. Spinks’ own Google account had been disabled for three weeks with no explanation, he said, meaning he had lost access to his Google Play app library, Google Drive data, YouTube channel and Gmail account. “I absolutely have not done anything to violate your terms of service, so I can take this no other way than you deciding to burn this bridge,” Spinks wrote....

The original Tetris Effect, created by legendary game designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi (known for the likes of Rez, Lumines, and Space Channel 5), was, of course, very good indeed, transforming the classic puzzler into a mesmerising audio-visual treat. The PC version of this action game collection is bare bones, with severely limited customisation and graphics options. It does not support mouse and keyboard, forcing PC users to play with a controller. A controller is perhaps preferable for Ninja Gaiden, but to not provide the option of mouse and keyboard is shocking.
