The Xbox Games Showcase Extended will take place on 14th June 6pm UK time across YouTube and Twitch. The broadcast will last for 90 minutes and include new trailers, deeper looks at news from the main showcase, and opinions from game creators. The showcase will be broadcast live in English, Latin America Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, and French, as well as audio description and American Sign Language. Of course, all the top Xbox news will be included in the main showcase, but hopefully we’ll get an extra peek at some further gameplay....

We’ve seen a doubling of performance on older games running on the new wave of consoles already, of course. We’ve looked at Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last Guardian and God of War on PlayStation 5, while legacy titles running with unlocked frame-rates can also tap in to the extra horsepower of Xbox Series consoles and PS5. The difference with FPS Boost is that Microsoft’s Xbox compatibility team is working its magic this time around to adjust frame-rate caps at the Direct3D level, increasing performance within the system, without any changes at all to the original code....

The real-time strategy game is still some time off from its expected late 2022 release date, but a build will be handed over to fans from tomorrow, Tuesday 30th November at 5pm UK time. You can preload the game now if you have a COH Development account (sign-up is free) linked to your Steam account. But you’ll need to get in and playing fairly quickly - the build will only be live until Tuesday 7th December at 4am UK time....

The ABK Worker’s Alliance - a group of employees pushing for workplace reform - yesterday stated that news of the acquisition was “surprising” but did “not change the goals of the ABK Worker’s Alliance”. Since then, other Activision Blizzard employees have shared their views. Much of the criticism has focused on CEO Bobby Kotick’s comments on declining stock prices. In an interview with GamesBeat, he claimed the stock price decline was mainly due to delays to Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4, rather than the ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit....

Alan Wake’s decidedly unsubtle attempts at paid product placement came in for some considerable criticism when it released back in 2010. The otherwise picturesque town of Bright Falls, which serves as the backdrop to Remedy’s adventure, was, for instance, littered with billboards for US phone service provider Verizon, and Wake’s supernaturally imbued flashlight seemed unusually fussy when it came to matters of evil-fighting, making exclusive use of Energizer batteries - meaning thousands of the brazenly branded buggers littered every nook, shelf, and unlikely hidey-hole throughout the game....

Aliens: Fireteam is a co-op third-person shooter due out summer 2021 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox One. The gameplay trailer is below (it looks a bit like Gears of War meets Aliens to me): Aliens: Fireteam is set 23 years after the original Alien trilogy. You play a Colonial Marine on the USS Endeavor, which was recently tasked with answering a distress call from the outer colonies....

What we did get was a look at more than a dozen promising indie titles headed to Nintendo Switch over the next year, some of which were new reveals, while others popped up with new release windows. Oh, and a couple are out today! The showcase kicked off with creature collection and farming game Ooblets, which is getting a Nintendo Switch release this summer. It previously launched via Early Access on PC and Xbox....

There were, however, a pretty decent selection of discounted Nintendo Switch OLED bundles, including ones that came with the choice of either Pokemon Legends: Arceus or Metroid Dread for only £309 - essentially offering the game for free. As expected, first party Switch games were not heavily discounted, and only had a couple of quid knocked off on the second day. SD card deals were probably one of the biggest highlights of Prime Day....

This is a 40 compute unit design, meaning this card has half the CUs of the flagship RX 6900 XT, but the card is driven at a higher frequency. Looking at the rest of the specs, the new graphics card has a smaller Infinity Cache than its bigger Big Navi predecessors, with 96MB here compared to 128MB on the other cards; likewise the total VRAM count here is 12GB versus 16GB....

The update, intended for 5th November, was announced at a recent Animal Crossing Direct and brings a number of additions. An app for the music streaming platform can be downloaded from the Xbox store on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles, or the Microsoft store. As well as offering a big screen version of your music library, the app has background playback, meaning you can listen to your favourite tracks while gaming. As reported by Polygon, designer Judy A. Juracek filed a lawsuit in a Connecticut court on Friday that alleges Capcom used unlicensed copyrighted photos for the creation of some of its games - and even for the Resident Evil 4 logo. At the heart of this lawsuit is Juracek’s book, Surfaces, a visual research for artists, architects and designers that includes 1200 photographs of textures she took herself. Surfaces, which was originally published in 1996, includes a CD-ROM of the images, which require a licence for commercial use....

Although Microsoft had already teased that the new arrivals were on the way they had not been formally dated. However, our friends at VGC report that the dates were confirmed by way of Game Pass’ “coming soon” section on the Microsoft Store, as viewed on Microsoft consoles. For Honor: Marching Fire Edition will join the Xbox Game Pass library on 1st June, whilst Assassin’s Creed Origins will reportedly arrive a week later on 7th June....

Fans can look forward to seeing “the last episode of the story of Eivor” via a final free chapter - which will presumably tell the story of how our Norse heroine came to rest in Vinland. Before then, there’s a new Niflheim-set roguelite game mode named The Forgotten Saga coming this summer, and a final set of challenge vaults coming this autumn to conclude the game’s Tombs of the Fallen mystery....

Having first hit Steam in 2018, Motorsport Games moved in on KartKraft last year, and the full release will see some 10 laser-scanned tracks, 20 kart manufacturers and plenty by way of mod support. It’s also one of the better racing experiences you can get in VR, so is worth a punt if you prefer your driving games a bit more immersive. KartKraft is part of Motorsport Games ever-expanding slate of offerings, with official BTCC and Le Mans games still on the horizon....
